When we acquired this Regency rosewood card table from a country house in Wiltshire, its beauty was obscured by decades of neglect. The original brass inlay was tarnished and lifting, the green baize surface was worn through, and a previous repair to one leg had been poorly executed.
Our conservator spent over sixty hours painstakingly stabilising the brass inlay, carefully re-laying each strand to its original position using period-appropriate adhesives. The baize was replaced with a hand-woven equivalent sourced from a heritage textile mill in Yorkshire. The leg repair was corrected using matching rosewood, shaped and finished to be virtually invisible.
The result speaks for itself. This table, dating to approximately 1815, now stands as a testament to the skill of both its original Regency maker and the modern craftspeople who preserved it. Available now for a collector who appreciates the romance of rescuing fine furniture from obscurity.
